Algae is building up inside the water tank, Khmer New Year is coming, and Cambodia is hosting the 2023 ASEAN Games, which has led to an early school break.
River Rocks Are Free 🪨

Our fence is mostly finished, but because the highway side of the fence is done and it also the first thing potential visitors will notice, we've begun landscaping and beautifying the small patch of land between the highway and the fence. First was a couple of banana trees, and now I've been hauling small rocks up from the river to create a small motorbike and pedestrian entry path. It's not beautiful yet, but it soon will be.
🏟️ The ASEAN Games Altered The School Year 🧑🏫

Today marked the last day of school for Monkey-B, and while waiting for her to jump in the tuk-tuk, the principal and a few teachers began preparing an information smörgåsbord, eventually covering the entire board in text. The short short story is that studies stop today, the 6th of April, and resume on the 19th of May.

The sugarcane juicer wrapped up her last big day of sales before the 5-week holiday while the students were busy picking up the trash in and around the school for a good ole' open pit plastic burnoff dioxin party. If you look carefully at the above poorly executed photo, you can see Monkey-B in the shade waiting for her freshly pressed juice and our majestic Piaggio Ape in the distance.

Monkey-B stopped by the tuk-tuk to say hi and then quickly disappeared, not wanting to miss out any of the last day's action. This time of the year isn't normally a school holiday, but because Cambodia is hosting the ASEAN games, this was the reason given the impromptu 5-week stoppage.
Hustle The Fried Snacks 🍢

I noticed a lady with a few chairs and an umbrella hustling something pierced on a stick, coated in panko bread crumbs and fried. She only had an umbrella and a few sauces, but otherwise no gear. She's normally in the fried food biz, but because she lives nearby and this was a super duper blowout day at school, she was able to earn a few bucks for the upcoming Khmer New Year.

One of the last things the kids did was the flag lowering ceremony, which I assume will be raised when studies resume in May. When I saw Monkey-B wandering back to the tuk-tuk with glazed eyes, I knew she wouldn't last 5 minutes in the tuk-tuk. Surely enough she jumped in and quickly shed her school clothes.

By the time I arrived at the shipping agent to collect our vegan instant noodles and vegan pâté, Monkey-B was 100% tuckered out, and with a strange style choice for the ride home. I think she was prepreparing for the dusty portion of the road 30 minutes away where she knew she'd be sound asleep. She was right, good trip planning led to dust-free hair and a happy arrival back at home.
