Yesterday our good (Hive) friend @faustofraser dropped by to see us, talk DeFi, crypto staking, and even battle Srey-Yuu in Splinterlands.
👨⚕️ First, Some Bird Rescue 🐦
Before a relatively exciting evening began, a bird was chased by the landlord's dogs into our place. Apparently the word is out in the animal world that our place is a refuge when being hunted by these dogs.
I quickly noticed one of its wings was broken, so that explains why it didn't simply take flight when being hunted. There are a few holes in the landlord's chicken coop that the local pigeon gang uses to go in and out, so I chased this little thing out of our house and escorted it back to the relative safety from dogs this area provides.
🎴 A Quick Splinterlands Break 👹
Usually during the weekdays if Srey-Yuu completes her homeschooling and household chores before it gets too late in the day, I will let her play Splinterlands for 15 minutes. This was the case yesterday, so I let her do some card selling, buying, and combining before dinner.
🥔🌶️ Aloo-Chole & Puri Time 🧆👨🍳
I heard from our closest friend in Suriname, the legendary @faustofraser, that he had some free-time and would be coming by, so I prepared a big meal of aloo chole and around 20 puris. This is one of my favorite soulfoods, and I find it's a very satisfying meal for meat-eaters like Fausto, accustomed to heavier dishes.
👩💻 Splinterlands, Hive, & DeFi Time ⚔️
After dinner we all gathered on the porch, and within 5 minutes Srey-Yuu challenged Fausto to a Splinterlands duel. It was no competition at all, and Srey-Yuu quickly destroyed him. Srey-Yuu has put quite a bit of time and effort into this blockchain game, and the results are starting to show.
While I was busy patting myself on the back for keeping my daughter away from mindless gaming all these years, I decided to ask her how much her accounts has grown in value since the last time I checked.
She logged into PeakMonsters and we were both immediately shocked, her account had grown from around $100 in value to a whopping $1,844.55 USD in value. Her Hive account is currently worth $2,400 USD, so Splinterlands has now become a significant chunk of her Hive wealth.
As the sun was going down, Fausto and I talked briefly about various staking pools like PolygonFarm, DinoSwap, PancakeSwap, and CubDeFi. He will soon invest $100 to learn the ropes of the crypto staking world, and I think chains like Polygon and Fantom are better for playing with smaller amounts of money.
Due to the extremely low gas fees on these chains, playing with as little as a few bucks is possible, and one doesn't have to lose a large portion to gas fees for every action performed. Curfew is still 9pm here in Suriname, so Fausto raced home on his motorbike before it was too late.
