Arrabbiata sauce is with pasta is one of Srey-Yuu's favorite dishes, so today I made a massive batch while she was away at school.

Not Very Cambodian 🤷‍♂️

Monkey-B is a lover of Indian food like me, whereas her big sister prefers almost all foreign foods that aren't Indian or Cambodian, so we almost never agree on what's for dinner. One dish the whole family loves is penne all'arrabbiata, sure sounds fancy, but it's basically just spicy-garlicky marinara sauce, very easy to make. I was actually making this dish to provide Srey-Yuu a pleasant surprise for her return from home school, but I couldn't tell Monkey-B that because she claims to love this dish more than her big sister.

Cambodians are always puzzled as to why these seemingly 100% Khmer girls speak English with each other, love foreign foods and music, and have a very non-Cambodian sense of humor. Stepdads aren't supposed to rub off so heavily on their so-called stepdaughters. but we're basically best friends whether they know it or not, and I think this part of the reason. Srey-Yuu will be 14 years old soon, and I feel the pressure of needing to get our US immigration sorted out before she's 18, otherwise it will be very hard for her to get a strong passport as a solo adult.

Spicy Food, Cold Night 🌶️

Today's content is not a smörgåsbord of photo variety, but I have just felt low on energy, overworked and underslept the last few days, so apologies for the repetitive poorly lit photography. I did cook a lot though today, made rasam for lunch and some masala chai for a late night warmup in addition to our pasta dinner, and of course I did my ASEAN Hive duties and I'm trying to publish this post at nearly 2am.

We're running a little low on mint lately after a few big larb tofu dinners, so tonight's late night chai was a little less minty that I prefer, but we always save the stems and replant in new areas to get more and more established on our land. There is no such thing as too much mint in our house, it will always get used.
