Earlier today my mom took me on a road-trip to run some errands, and along the way she stopped at an automatic carwash, something that use to terrify me as a child.

Everything Is Big In The USA 🤠

When I was a child, there was an automatic carwash near my home that used to haunt my dreams. It wasn't nearly as modern or visually appealing as this one, and I used to cry and hide in the floorboard when we'd visit the the old primitive automatic wash.

Coming from Suriname, I feel terribly cold here, so I was surprised to see a woman pre-washing the cars in nothing but a long-sleeve shirt. As soon as we pulled in the tracks, memories from my childhood starting flooding my brain. It has probably been 25+ years since I've been in automatic carwash.

Memories 💭

Although the automatic carwash was always a terrifying experience for me, the spot-free rinse at the end still mystifies me to this day. I know it's just soft-water, but it sure seems like magic. The spinning mop-like thing is what used to scare me the most, and apparently this technology has not been updated, still effective as it was in the 1980s.

Light At The End Of The Tunnel ☀️

IMG_4696.JPG

It is tough trying to produce content at the moment, I called the Cambodian Embassy in Washington D.C. and pleaded my case, but if fell on deaf ears, and no visa was granted. If I choose to fly to Cambodia on the 22nd, it will only be possible to see them for 2 months before I must leave the country and look for somewhere else to live by myself.

There was light at the end of the tunnel at the carwash, perhaps I will get my light at the end of the tunnel some day soon. Even though I am here in the USA visiting family and friends, I don't really feel present with them if that makes sense. A piece of me is missing, and that is my family in Cambodia.

Piloting today's journey was my mom, and there she is bathed in red light from the car wash.

After the blow dryers finished the car, we were outside and on our way again. This car wash is honestly the most exciting thing has happened to me so far in Indiana, I didn't realize it was going to be even harder than Suriname to find things of interest to post about.

Sorry I'm not my upbeat self, I gotta learn to adapt to life without the three Khmer ladies of my life, it may be a while before we're back together again.
