The dry season is here and now is the chance to harvest rocks from the river and relocate them to the upstream edge of the hammock hut to prevent erosion.
Where'd The Water Go? 🕵️

We've lived here in Steung Kach nearly a year, and when we first arrived, this is what the river looked like, barely more than a creek. Well, I've seen the violent flow this river is capable of in the rainy season, so I know with the water so low right now, this is the time to relocate rocks to the upstream edge of the hammock hut.

It's not rocket science, take rocks from the river and toss or carry them to the eroded bank at the edge of our property. I have no pictures of me doing this, but rest assured that's what I was doing on this day. No matter how many hours I spend down here hucking rocks, the pile never seems to grow much, but I can remember when the downclimb required required a jump, so I guess it's a little better considering Monkey-B and Ah Boom can now go up and down easily, albeit with the use of hands.
Progress Is Slow 🐌

The mission is the same every time, add more rocks to rock pile until my back hurts too much or I can't stand the smell of myself anymore. At this point it's time to take a river bath, and you can see my towel and dipper in the bottom edge of the above photo, ready for the moment whenever it's bath time.

The idea is to eventually have a sizeable mound of rocks to not only prevent future landslides, but also provide a gentle slope from the hut down to the river. At the moment only physically fit individuals can access the river from our land, and this is our only hut because the flooding last season destroyed the other hut, one I never had the time to do any erosion control with.
A Staged Re-Enactment 📽️

The last image I leave you with today is a totally staged operation. It was the first day of school, but there was no time for photos in the morning, so my wife asked Srey-Yuu to put back on her school clothes later in the day and pretend she was going to school. Monkey-B is amused by the whole thing, especially that I took a picture of this fraud 🤣.
