I made some Cincinnati Chili for the family last night, one of the few American foods that we all enjoy, and I also thought of some proverbs to share for the current ASEAN Hive Community challenge.
Cold Weather, Hot Food ♨️

I won't make this a recipe post because I've already shared this recipe on Hive in the past, even though I make it a little different each time depending on the ingredients available. This time I used black beans instead of red beans, and because crackers aren't available, I used broken poppadums as the crunchy topping.

I always add fresh cilantro or sawtooth herb to my Cincinnati Chili, and at this point I have pretty much Indianized this American dish of Macedonian origins. What I like about this dish is the cocoa powder works well with the other flavors, much like Mexican mole. Also, adding all the fresh toppings like crunchy bits, raw onion, fried tofu, and hot sauce, make it really fun because you can tailor the dish to your tastes.
Mey-Yii Approves ✌️

At home Mey-Yii is used to eating grilled meat with white rice, these are the easiest low-effort foods her Grandman can prepare quickly. Because of this, Mey-Yii has never eaten anything with strong flavors like Indian food, so it's a bit overwhelming to her, and she still doesn't like most vegetables.

Monkeu-B and I like to add way too much raw onion to this dish, as you can see in my photo. Mey-Yii stayed the night again last night because her Grandma is already back on another casino bender. This time she was gone for 3 days and only returned 1 night before disappearing again.

We are not very happy with this woman, and we've already confronted her to let her know we disapprove of the way she is raising her granddaughter. She was't the least bit ashamed I guess, because this talk didn't stop her from heading back to the casino again.

Proverbs
There is a challenge in ASEAN Hive this week concerning local proverbs, so I thought I would share some with you all from my homeland, the USA, hoping perhaps my Southeast Asian readers haven't heard all of them before.
"Don't let your alligator mouth overload your peacock a✳✳!"
Meaning: This could be used as a warning to someone that is verbally intimidating you, a way of letting them know you're not afraid to fight them and that it's about to happen soon if they don't shut up. Also it could be used as warning for someone to not make promises they can't keep.
"If you snooze, you lose."
Meaning: This one is extra special because it also rhymes, and basically warns of the consequences of not reacting quickly enough.
"You can't have your cake and eat it too."
Meaning: A warning that you shouldn't have two incompatible things, or perhaps even too much of anything in life.
Bad news travels fast.
Meaning: Gossip and negative rumors spread faster than positive talk or good news.
There is no such thing as a free lunch.
Meaning: There are always hidden costs behind every transaction, even if the transaction is free.
