"When it rains, it pours," as the old saying goes, and yesterday's series of events were a real rollercoaster ride., with only Monkey-B and I escaping harm.
🔥 The Cause & The Cure 🧴
The images in this post have zero to do with what I want to write about, well minus the shea butter and hot oil you can see in the above photo. Some of you may know my whole family has been sick for the last 4 or 5 days, likely not COVID, but a manageable flu-like sickness I have been treating with lots of lemongrass/ginger tea. I have been picking up the slack to allow everyone to rest while being sick myself, combined that with the 14 or so hours a day I dedicate to Hive to make our lifestyle possible.
Everybody was beginning to feel better, and I returned from school with the kids and my ASEAN Hive work basically done for the day. All I needed to do was a little Hive engagement and make a post from my profile, then I was looking at the chance to get in bed by 6pm where I hoped to collapse and allow my own body to heal, but life had entirely different plans. Not long after arriving home a series of hair-raising events happened in quick succession.
Ring The Alarm 🔔
Ssre-Yuu entered my room distraught and telling me she had been burned on her face while frying donuts. I acted quick, turned off the stove, and began to assess how bad it was. While consoling her and preparing cold rags, ice, etc., Monkey-B, Pov and Mey-Yii were all missing, so I assumed they were at the neighbor's house. I quickly realized it was getting late and I would need to prepare dinner, so just as I began meal prep, Pov stormed in the house crying in pain and with a face covered in aloe vera.
At this point I am frantically treating two people, but Pov's cries had me seriously concerned. I am former Wilderness EMT, so my main objective was determining how bad the burns were and whether or not I would be able to manage the situation at home or need to get in tuk-tuk and drive many hours to a rural provincial hospital with horrendous standards of care. It didn't take long to realize Pov's burns were minor and could be treated with ice packs, aloe vera, and shea butter, but this didn't alleviate the extreme pain she was in.
Mey-Yii Takes A Tumble 🧗♀️
Just when I realized we could manage this situation from home, I quickly raced to make dinner, knowing no matter what that everyone must eat or otherwise things will get out of control. As I was washing a pot outside the house, Mey-Yii slipped and fell from the gigantic boulder outside our front door, and on the way down crashed on the power pole lying next to the boulder. Once again my EMT triage brain kicks into high gear, Mey-Yii is hysterically crying in pain and not saying much. I needed to know if she hit her head or spine and/or lost consciousness, but she wasn't talking.
She's already under emotional distress, and she's been staying with us now about 6 days a week, almost fully abandoned at this point. So here she is with this strange vegetarian family, and we all don't quite yet understand where this life situation is going, and now she's injured and without guardian. I scanned her clothes and could clearly see from the debris and the situation that she took a feet-first tailbone blaster off the boulder, super-duper painful, but manageable from home. So, with 3 out of 5 house members in pain, I cooked dinner while Monkey-B took over the nightly lice checks.
The ladies worked on their Hive blogs for the rest of the evening, I skipped posting and and stayed up until far too late at night once again in a vain attempt to catch back up on lost work hours. So here I am in the tuk-tuk, making a post in the Piaggio Ape while waiting for the kids to get out of school. All I can say about Mey-Yii's grandma at this point is that I wish she was a man so I could challenge her to a duel and get it over with. Mey-Yii clearly has some years of emotional trauma to get over, and she is hard to manage and a little wild because she's had no guidance in life. There is only so much we can do while she's under the influence of her grandma, so I pray that this woman turns her life around or just let us raise Mey-Yii with a more positive life example.
