A lack of cooking gas and dry firewood was what today brought us, but luckily Harry the lamb came by to cheer us up as usual.

Fire Is Mesmerizing 👀

1.JPG

We ran out of propane a few days ago, and once again it's a hard resource to find, but luckily we're no strangers to cooking on a fire when necessary. Fire is such a simple but meditative thing to let the eyes got lost in, and Monkey-B seems to get into the zone when tending the fire.

Let's Eat More Salad 🥗

2.JPG

It's been raining on and off for days now, and pretty much all the firewood we have access to is soaking wet, so ultimately that means we just have to go on a salad diet until the weather improves. Well, luckily later in the day our neighbors allowed us to borrow their tank and cook a hot meal. With morale partially restored and tummies full, we all began doing our daily Hive-related responsibilities.

Partially Packed 🧳

3.JPG

We've got a couple of suitcases already weighed and ready for flight, and the sight of packed bags has this guy pretty excited. We are definitely not leaving Suriname the way we had hoped, but at this point we are just glad to leave, whether as a united family or not. The world seems to have gone bonkers, so the only we can do is roll with the punches and try to create the best life possible within all the red tape.

Panoramic Chef 👩‍🍳

IMG_4441.JPG

I kept my wife company in the chicken coop kitchen while she was frying some tofu, and for some reason realized I've never once used the panorama feature on my iPhone camera, so here it is, a shot wide enough to capture the walk back to our house and the walk to the main road. I definitely need to experiment with more panoramic shots in the future.

The chicken coop kitchen is far from ideal, and it's designed so that the smoke from the stove gets blown back in your face instead of evacuated from the building. This is just one of many reasons we prefer to cook on the ground next to apartment when there's no propane around.

Jurassic Park 🦖

7.JPG

Although not a fan of baby dinosaurs, I decided to snap some pics of the animal life nearby. Ever since I learned that most dinosaurs probably had feathers and don't look like what my elementary school textbooks taught me, I have seen the T-Rex spirit alive in chickens, and now they are dinosaurs to me.

Slightly less dinosaur-like is the pigeon coop, and I honestly don't know its purpose. I assume the landlord eats pigeons because he doesn't interact with them like pets, but I'm not 100% sure. A pigeon seems a weird bird to eat because I associate they can be carriers of many different diseases.

Take The Camera For A Swim 📷

10.JPG

With my creativity quickly disappearing, I decided to take a shot with the camera lens nearly in the water, and I liked the reflection it produced. I'm no photographer by any means, but I do like to play with angles and perspective sometimes.

One more nearly in the water shot to call it quits for today's piping hot Hive content. Honestly I am a bit distracted from Hive lately now that our departure date is so close. Thanks to all of you for being on this journey with us the last several years. We can't wait to soon share content from Cambodia, the place we feel must at home in the world.
