Most mornings a local herd of cows enters our block of rental rooms to graze at the back of the property where everyone except us burn their trash.
🎒 Off To School Monkey-B 👧🏽

Monkey-B has nearly settled into her new routine of studying at Cambodian public school and a private English school. Public school is bright and early, not the above picture you see, that is Monkey-B off to study English with her driver/teacher in a Prius, quite a VIP way to get to school, and the first time we've ever paid for transport to school.

I still have to take both of the girls to public school in the tuk-tuk, but for ten dollars a month it is nice to know my afternoons and evenings are free to focus on work, allowing me to earn much more than the ten dollars spent on the VIP school taxi per month.
🔔 Visitors Of The Bovine Kind 🐄

Almost as predictable as an alarm clock, a herd of cattle come into our block of rental rooms every morning, usually going straight to the back of the property to graze in the area where all the renters (except us) burn their trash. We've mentioned the dangers of breathing and interacting with dioxin, but also realize that most people around here still believe the Cambodian nationalist propaganda, basically thinking most foreigners are stupid, naive, and helpless.

I'm sure the weeds and grass at the back of the property contain heavy amounts of dioxin, but the cows don't know that, and their only choice is to graze the available nearby areas. The little calf is so cute, and it got me thinking our lamb friend Harry back in Suriname..... I sure do miss that little guy.
🛺 The Return Of Monkey-B

I took the above shot after Monkey-B and I returned from public school together. Notice the standardized uniform, and my old-fashioned self loves the long skirt, something my daughters would never wear otherwise. The little homemade shelter belongs to our neighbors, and they often spend their days hanging out there, much better airflow than the interior of the rooms here.
🪰 Fly Genocide 🎾

Like most humans in this part of the world, we are the proud owners of an electric mosquito racket, of which I like to use to kill flies once a day. The housefly population here is unchecked, and due to surrounding poor hygiene practices, I have to kill about 30 or 40 each day just to keep things manageable.

After I shake the housefly corpses out of the racket and onto the ground, the ants immediately snatch this precious resource, almost as if begging me not to sweep them out the front door. I usually let the ants have their snack, and the little kid in me enjoys watching them carry the flies away, always curious where the final destination is.
👋 Bye Srey-Yuu

I leave you with a pic of the typical last-minute chaos that goes on right before we head out the door for school. Two apples, a water bottle, backpack, and a whole lot of yawns, and we're out the door and on the road to public school. Until next time ASEAN Hivers....
