I hope to never run out of ways to make an ordinary mundane day into moderately interesting Hive content, after all, Hive pays the bills these days.
🏫 School Back In Session = Daily Lice Checks 🔍
This school year is shaping up to be a much easier one on me. The girls now ride to a school with a girl from the village whose mom we convinced to let her continue education by way of us keeping her moto gas tank full and her cell phone topped up. So far the girl seems to be a responsible and slow driver, but it sure is hard for me to put their lives in the hands of a fellow teenager.
Get Goofy 🤪
The true story behind this shot is that I had very little time for a Hive post today, so I snatched Monkey-B up and said "quick goofy photo for Hive," then put her down and let her get back to whatever she was doing. As I look at this photo, I realize I am getting old and that Irish DNA doesn't age well, particularly the ginger variety 🧔.
🥄 So Much Activity 🪣
I picked up a shipment of vegan instant noodles, seitan, and vegan ham today, and the family has been craving some noodles for so long that there was no family dinner on this day. Instead, each person prepared their noodles according to their own schedule, with Pov starting the trend, then Srey-Yuu joining after fetching a pail of water up the hill with her friends Jack & Jill.
As usual, Srey-Yuu tried to dodge my attempts at photography, but I simply stood still and waited for her to enter the house, managing to time the shot perfectly, just before she covered her face and lunged at me for a questionably playful attack.
Fermented Pickles 🥒
Monkey-B offered a smile while enjoying her fermented pickle soup, I call it that because I only know the Khmer name, not really sure how to refer to it in English. It's bean sprouts and cucumbers lacto-fermented with chilies and garlic, served cold in a bowl with the sour brine, and although I've failed to describe it in a way that makes it sound delicious, rest assured it is deliciously sour, or sourly delicious 🤔.
A Missing Ukulele Player 🎸
The last shot I leave you with is after our separate noodle dinners. Monkey-B can be seen with her iPad in the background, returning from watching her sister practice some ukulele strumming at the cabin. Srey-Yuu is very self-aware with her ukulele skills so far, but I must admit there were a couple of moments where she hit a groove and it sounded really good. I think she's on the verge of a stringed breakthrough very soon.
