The last few weeks have been hectic and busy, and I've found little time for any Hive-tivities beyond my ASEAN Hive responsibilities.

🛺 On The Road Again

1.JPG

After spending a few weeks outside Phnom Penh in Ta Khmau at @ahleap's house, we finally had all of our documents in hand, as well as a tuk-tuk full of DIY furniture and other random things. I documented the last day, showing how no matter the situation the last 4 years, whether stranded abroad in Suriname, or on the road in Cambodia, I have done my best to keep my daughters' education challenging and engaging.

Khan Academy has been a lifesaver, as there are very few truly free educational apps for kids that are simply outstanding. Monkey-B has now left behind Khan Academy Kids and upgraded to regular Khan Academy online courses, so she sadly no longer has cartoon characters to keep her entertained while studying. My little girl is growing up too fast.

Srey-Yuu has managed to keep improving her Khmer literacy all the years abroad and out of the Cambodian educational system. She splits her time between Khan Academy and a Cambodian E-School app that is free provided you have a Cambodian telephone number/SIM card.

📦 The Cargo Haul 🛺

We also took some time to do shopping here and there while in the capital, and we although about 1/4th of what you see in the above photo is camping gear we brought along with us, all this stuff had to go in the tuk-tuk for the 300km+ journey back to Pramaoy.

We bought a small ground mattress for the @kidsisters to share, and I got a chuckle when I saw the brand was Decleor, apparently located in Paris. In case you didn't know, it is a French Brand Environmental Mattress, I guess the environmental part being that it was made in an environment.

Last Look At The Mekong 🚢

Before we loaded up the tuk-tuk and hit the road back to Pramaoy, we took one last trip to the Phnom Penh riverside and looked at the everchanging skyline. There are a few signs that tourism is returning, but even the riverside is full of shuttered businesses, something I'd never seen in my 12+ years on/off here in Cambodia.

I managed to catch Monkey-B in a pensive mood, not that excited about a long road-trip in an overcrowded tuk-tuk. When the sugarcane juices were empty, it was time to go.

We took a little more of the scenery in, and then the family began to get sick one by one, fever, chills, coughing, etc. Not sure of whether it was COVID or a seasonal flu that is currently going around, we stayed masked up as much as possible.

I wasn't too excited at the thought of a two-day roadtrip while fighting off a sickness, but it was simply time to go after several weeks away from the home that is our rental room in Pramaoy.

I hardly ever get a chance to take pics while piloting the Ape, the phone is my navigation device and I need both hands on the handlebars to operate the clutch and throttle. For this reason there are no in between pics.

💤 Home Again

14.JPG

The last 100 km of the drive, I was unable to sit still, my back throbbing in pain, and all I wanted to do was lay down. When we arrived, a massive headache took me off my feet for 6 hours, then I woke up to Monkey-B like this. She was making good use of her study table I guess.

It's now been more than a week, but we're settled again, and I'm finally feeling 100% again, and whatever FLU-VID thing I had has now run its course. I hope to soon get back into the habit of daily posting again, but we still have to install wi-fi first, and things move a little more slowly out here in the boondocks.
