The weather is still allowing brief periods of forward progress on the cabin, I made peanut podi, and the river has been raging lately.
Floor Is Almost Done 🚧
We haven't run out of wood to steal from the highway shack yet, and the floor is nearly replanked. Sanding, staining, and varnishing will come later when all the woodwork is done. With the price of all my crypto investments in the gutter right now, we've certainly picked a very bad time to take on a crypto-funded project like this.
Whitewater Training 🌊
Monkey-B and I have been going to the river to do whitewater safety lessons when possible. I used to have a Swiftwater Rescue Technician License many years ago, and I feel more confident allowing the girls to go the river without me so long as they know what to do should they get taken by the current.
Srey-Yuu, Monkey-B, and I floated a section of the river, where the current is strong, and I use this to teach them how to avoid foot entrapment and being caught by strainers like tree branches. It's all about going feet-first on your back, that's the safest way to swim whitewater. On this day the water was moving too fast for us to swim upstream using eddies behind the rocks, so we had to hike back along the river's edge.
Wood Delivery 🪵
We've learned we're too distant from any depots to get good prices cement, mortar, bricks, plaster, rocks, etc., but luckily wood here is almost 50% the normal price in other parts of Cambodia. So even though the in-laws are brick and mortar guys, they are competent enough woodworkers to do the project. So far so good, but the rain is really limiting the amount of working hours in a day.
