The SuperCub has been long overdue for a new chain and sprockets, Monkey-B's imagination is limitless, and we finally tear down our serial killer shack.

👋 Yo' Monkey-B

Upon a recent trip out of the village I had a realization that my Super Cub 90's chain and sprockets were nearly dead. I had already reached the maximum adjustment on my chain and was tightening it every few days, but luckily here in Cambodia a new chain and sprockets run only $8.75 USD. When I returned home I found Monkey-B's imagination at work.

She has a discarded styrofoam box full of jars, leaves, stones, and other stuff that's a bit too dirty to play with indoors. My daughter particularly loves making potions and tonics from leaves and flowers she finds on our property. Sometimes I ask what effect each potion has, but on this day I didn't, so you Hivers will have to use your own imaginations.

👷 Pre-Construction Destruction ⚒️

Perhaps some of you recognize half of the above building, it was the previous owner's first structure. When we bought the land, the man and his wife were living in it as opposed to the brick house and wood cabin, both in far better condition. When we began cleaning this place two years ago, the shack was full of used tampons, a very gross cleanup. Since that day I've always dreamed of tearing the place down, but we needed a garage and storage space, so up until now we decided to make use of it.

Our dream house will be located in roughly the same place as the original shack, so it has to be torn down. The left half is being rebuilt along our fence on the neighbor's side, and it will serve as a storage space/kitchen/hangout for my Cambodian in-law construction crew, which has now grown to a 4-man team. It costs us $50+ USD per day to keep them working, far more than I earn, but we aim to finish our house before our life savings is completely gone.

🧱 We Got Bricks & Sand ⏳

It will we a modest two-story brick house, 12m x 6m, with four 3m x 3m rooms on top, 3 bedrooms and finally an office for me. It will also be the first time ever my daughters have had their own separate rooms, something they are both looking forward to. The ground floor will be dedicated to customers, so things like multiple bathrooms and showers for overnight guests, a bar/restaurant area, reception, social area, and a big long pitched roof that slopes up towards the mountain, allowing views at all times.

I am hoping to have enough space for a tier or two of semi -outdoor space that will be somewhat protected by the long single-pitched roof that will extend at least 4 meters past the edge of the house. The roof will be so high that a firepit can be located partially indoors, allowing us to enjoy a bit of an outdoorsy lifestyle even during the rainy season. Of course construction updates and the finished house will be shared with you all Hivers, so stay tuned....
