I wasn't going to leave Florida without swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, so my mom took me swimming during the last days of my stay there.
🏖️ White Sand 🌊 Clear Water

After previous trips to Gasparilla Island, and specifically Boca Grande Beach on the island, I wanted to return for a swim because the weather was so nice and the water so alluring. Even though this was a planned trip, I still forgot my swimwear somehow.

If it was Cambodia I would've just gone swimming in my jeans like the locals, but here in Florida that would be more weird than just swimming in my undies.

It's already strange enough being a ginger at the beach, we redheads fear beachgoers will shout things like "You don't belong here," "He'll roast alive," or "I can't look directly at him because it burns my eyes!" Of course I'm kidding, I'm fine under a bare sun for several hours, but a full day will turn me red like an apple.
Into The Gulf Of Mexico 🏊♂️

Although I had forgotten my swimwear, I hadn't forgotten my swim cap, so with my rubber dome on I headed into the waters off of Boca Grande Beach. I immediately noticed how much more buoyant (almost wrote floaty) I was in the salty water than in the oxygenated river rapids behind our house (here) in Cambodia.

We weren't the only ones with an idea to visit the beach on this day as can be seen in the photos. As far as I could see in both directions there were people dotting the shore, and I totally understand why, the saltwater breeze and sun and are a therapy of sorts.
Mission Complete ✅

After treading water for a half hour or so, it was time to call it quits. I didn't come with an idea to spend a day at the beach, that's not so fun for me anymore. But a quick trip to the beach with a purpose, that's more my style, so this trip was a perfect daytime escape.

Upon leaving the beach I took a picture of some signage for you all. The rules would appear that nobody is allowed on the beach after dark, and no fires, camping, or booze, all the things that would make a beach even more fun, but I totally understand the need for rules like this given the high daily numbers of beachgoers.
