A picnic stop on our recent family road trip to the Thai border may very well be our future home site, but that's highly classified information for now.

Cambodian Paradise For Sell 🏞️

1.JPGwe could have this view every day if things go right

The place where the majority of the photos in this post were taken might very well turn out to be out future home site. @sreypov and I have already posted a bit about our recent Thai border trip, but a simple photo that she took of a drink shop sign next to the picnic site contained the phone number of the owner.

(After the trip) Pov gave the number a call and inquired about the seemingly tiny vacant lot next door where we parked our tuk-tuk. It would've been within our price range and just large enough to build a small house and have a place to park the tuk-tuk. Well, turns out that land is sold already, but there is still a much larger plot for sale.

It's Top-Secret Yo' 🕵️

We should've paid attention to the signs nature was showing us, especially when Srey-Yuu broke the ole' Cambodian river real estate stick. I don't want to reveal too much yet because this strip of highway is the only way into Cambodia from the Thai border there, and it's no secret it's becoming an international tourist border crossing later this year.

Everywhere we looked on our trip, the land was completely out of our price range, but this little strip of 10 huts sandwiched between 2 mountains, the highway, and a freshwater creek, has a piece of land that's for sale at 5 times what we can afford, but luckily it's 5 times bigger than what we need. The owner won't sell a portion of it, so we're currently looking for investors among family and friends both in the USA and here in Cambodia.

The Panorama Shot 📷

7.JPGthis panoramic shot was the only way to share the majestic views on both ends of the creek

You can imagine the potential of owning land next to the only highway in and out of Thailand for miles and miles in any direction. What I really like is that we were high in altitude there, on the other side of a mountain pass, and it really reminds me of the Smoky Mountains in the USA. There are businesses everywhere offering tent-camping, and the whole tourism vibe seems to be geared towards young adventurous nature-loving Cambodians.

Fingers Crossed 🤞

8.JPGI don't think we'd ever leave the water if we lived here

This weekend we'll be going back to the area to meet the owner of the land and pitch a tent for the night. We realize the likelihood of the land being sold very soon is high, and also the chance we will be able to produce the amount of money required to buy it is low. However, I am excited at a 1% chance of owning a slice of heaven.

The Tmor Da Toch Waterfall Tourist Trap 🚌

11.JPGpondering why there are so many costs at this mediocre site

I knew the tourist site would not be as good as the free random picnic stop along the road, and of course I was right. We had to pay for parking, then pay for tickets to get in, and then pay for each stage of the tiny waterfall we could descend. It was ridiculous, and the only swimmable location was formed by a concrete barrier.

12.JPGI'm no expert insect photographer like **@sreypov**, but I catch a butterfly sometimes

The Khmer tourists were gawking at me and commenting on my physical appearance, so we had to look hard for a place where 50 people weren't going to watch my every move. Circumstances like that are from relaxing, so instead I took the the opportunity there for mostly photography.

13.JPG

All in all we were thrilled to have the time to take this trip, and we got some water therapy in two different locations in one day, a very special occurrence. I'm already looking forward to the return trip, and I can't get the vision out of my head. The wife said I'd like to possibly open a school there and help them develop the tourism potential of this overlooked strip, and the locals seemed excited about this prospect, so stay tuned folks.

Run For The Border 🛃

15.JPG

The main goal was to go all the way to the Thai border on Highway 55, and we arrived there after several hours. The police were nice enough to entertain us, and allowed us to snap a couple of selfies after promising we wouldn't make a run for it.

17.JPG

We told the police we heard this little forest trail was going to be an international border crossing in a few months, and their response could basically translated as

"....so they say."

The border guards didn't seem to be convinced of this international hype, but the highway is undergoing massive development and there's already been a n newspaper article published about the border crossing, it's no secret. That's all I got for ya my fellow Hivers, and I hope we find ourselves camping at our picnic site again this weekend.
