In our quest (unsuccessful) to get criminal background checks from the Suriname Police, we ended up stuck downtown during a rainstorm, but we discovered a few cool pieces of street art in the process.

ย ย ย The quest to get criminal police checks didn't work out, and was a hot mess actually, but this post is about the street art we accidentally found. We found ourselves in downtown and with time to burn, so we decided to explore a newly developed canal and promenade complete with several small kiosk businesses.

ย ย ย A friend had previously told us there was a vegan cafe operating from one of the kiosks, so we looked for the hippest external artwork, which I have now dubbed "Lightly Armed Multicultural Trekker," and this led us right to the vegan cafe.
ย ย ย The cafe wasn't open, so we peeked through the windows and were able to see the expected high prices on the menu board. Because they were closed I wasn't able to ask any questions about the artworks.
ย ย ย No sooner than we admired the public artworks, a rainstorm let loose and we found ourselves trapped near a bridge under one of the kiosk's awnings. It was here we discovered that the bridge was beautified with some art of its own.

ย ย ย There was a break in the rain, and an unlicensed and unmarked taxi (aka random guy with a car) gave us a price to get home we couldn't resist, so we cut our losses and headed home with 5 coconuts I stole from a tree in the Palm Garden, giving one to our driver upon safe arrival at our rental room.
